How To Treat Serious Illness During Caribbean Holidays

Monday, November 30th, 2009

People plan things for their holidays throughout the year, but sometimes these very holidays prove quite disastrous for them when they become a victim of some untoward circumstances, or illness. It is true that illness, and misfortune can catch you any time and at any place. It is always better if you remain mentally prepared for such circumstances.

There are certain places where tourists often become ill, because of the climate changes, and due to taking unhealthy foods. Different gastric illnesses, salmonella, and E Coli are some diseases that often catch the tourists during their holidays. Therefore, tourists have to be very careful in this regard, be it a visit Caribbean, or some other destination.

It is often said that prevention is always better than cure. You must be prepared, and take all the preventive measures to ensure that nobody gets sick during the trip instead of medicating them after they get sick. Still, it happens that after so much care, you still get sick, and in that case, you should immediately take measures to get well. There are always doctors available in almost every resort, and hotel in the Caribbean, so if you get sick you can consult them. Nevertheless, sometimes they might not be available, so in that case, you must go to the doctor in the nearby area.

For medical treatment, you can also get the assistance of your tour operator. If he is not available, then you must ask the resort, or the hotel reception to get you to a doctor immediately.

Although you have to incur expenses at the spot, but when you get back you can claim these expenses, so you must carefully keep all the receipts. If you have a travel insurance policy, you must check if it would fly you home for the treatment. If you have minor illness, it is quite possible that it will not cover it, so you should better get the treatment where you are staying. In case you have some serious illness, or some bad injuries, then it is very important that you must rush back home to get treatment at the hospital near to your home.

In some of the past years, there are innumerable cases of gastric illness that have come up in the Caribbean, which is definitely because of the unhygienic conditions of the food available in the restaurants, or the resorts. If you have any doubt regarding the hygiene of the food, then you should not take it, in fact you should lodge a complaint against it.

If the food was included in the tour package of the resort, or the hotel where you were staying, then you can claim against them. Once you get back to UK, you must immediately seek some legal help to settle your claims against the tour operator. Do not try to work out the claim with the tour operator by yourself.

When deciding Caribbean as your holiday destination, you must keep in mind that food poisoning is the biggest threat for tourists in this part of the world, and you definitely need to take care to make the most of your holiday tours; otherwise, you may not be able to enjoy the place the way you wanted to. You can also seek help from the reviews of the tourists to get an idea about the hotels, and resorts.

Everything you need to know about Caribbean holidays is available online.

How to Learn to Fly - The Basics of Flight Training

Monday, November 30th, 2009

When you look up to the sky and see that plane just gliding along amongst the clouds it looks easy doesn’t it? Well it is for a highly qualified trained pilot. It certainly something anyone can attain provided they are willing to put the time and effort into learning and qualifying at what it takes to become a pilot.

If you love to fly and really are thinking about becoming a pilot then put yourself to a mini test. Call around some of the local flight training school and see who offers an introductory flight. It will cost you about an hour of your time and $50. Out of your budget but at least you will get a good idea if you want to pursue the idea of flying. It is like a try and see type test.

After your little test and you are even more adamant to become a Pilot then the next step is are you medically fit to do so? You may think you are but you need the confirmation of an aviation Doctor to put this in writing by way of a medical certificate. You will only come by this once you pass their medical examination successfully. This is a Class 1 if you are planning to become an airline pilot or a class 3 for recreational piloting. This is the medical certificate that the FAA insists on. Once this is completed, you are ready for the next step.

You also need to understand what privileges and restrictions apply to the various Pilot licenses. For example for the Private Pilot license, you will be allowed to fly for recreational purpose only. You can never accept money for the duties of a pilot with this license.

Obtaining your license as we said will require several commitments. First, you have to consider the time that will be involved. If you can allot time for at least one to two week consistently on a weekly basis for your lessons then you should be ok. Each lesson averages about 1 to 2 hours each, so it is not demanding a horrendous amount of your time. You will also need to give serious thought to the cost as well, which could be anywhere between $4-$5000 depending on the economy. With price of fuel, escalating there will no doubt be a rise in flight tuitions. Its also help to count on a little extra for unforeseen expenses such as opting for extra flying time. This is in case you are having difficulty with some segments of your flying.

Sometimes individuals will enter a course with the bare minimum amount of money thinking that they will complete their course in half the time and safe some money. It does not work that way with flight training. It is mandatory that you spend a specified amount of hours on your training and there is no deviation or flexibility in this. If you have not completed the specified hours you will not even qualify to take the final test.

If you follow a consistent time schedule, you can complete your course somewhere between 3-6 months. Of course, this is dependant on how many lessons and flight time you complete in a week. Moving on from a Private Pilots license can take you into commercial flying and several other types of flying careers.

Alaskan Cruises Are Amazing

Monday, November 30th, 2009

It’s really no wonder that so many people want to go on an Alaskan cruise, with all the wildlife and magnificent scenery to behold in Alaska. Princess cruise line offers Alaskan cruises on nine different Princess cruise ships and several embarkation points on the west coast.

Alaskan cruises departing from Seattle will leave you with a lifetime of memories. The Princess cruise line cruise ships are in fact destinations unto themselves, but when you have such a masterpiece of photography that is Alaska looming in front of you, it is very difficult to even realize the beauty of the ship that is carrying you through this wonder of nature. As if the amazing vistas on Princess cruises to Alaska and the inside passage weren’t enough, Princess also offers guided tours into the heart of Alaska.

Alaska’s Inside Passage is one of the most scenic areas to cruise in the world, home to bald eagles, whales, sea lions, otters, brown bears, mountain goats and flocks of seabirds. Plus you’ll visit a variety of exotic ports of call full of rich history and native culture. Alaskan cruises will visit Anchorage, Skagway, and Juneau, just to name a few of the ports where you can immerse yourself in the heritage of Alaska.

The Royal Princess cruise ship offers– day “Alaska Connoisseur” cruises of Alaska and the Inside Passage embarking from Seattle. Although smaller, the Royal Princess cruise ship is a very new ship and offers a very intimate experience on a cruise ship with that “new car smell”. The smaller cruise ships offer more intimacy than larger ships, but that intimacy comes at a price.

If it is intimacy you are looking for on your Alaskan cruise, then you should consider the smaller ships in the Princess fleet, but remember that they will be more expensive than the larger Princess cruise ships. The larger the ship, the lower the price, is the general rule because they do not offer the intimacy of a smaller ship. However, price should be the last thought on your mind when it comes to an Alaskan cruise due to the amazing scenery you shall behold on this cruise of a lifetime.

Families that wish to visit Alaska on a cruise should consider the larger Princess cruise ships. The larger ships are more family friendly and there will be more children to play with. Children will need to find others their age to play with when they tire of the scenery. The price of booking a smaller ship should also be a consideration when it comes to a family vacation, and smaller ships have far fewer children on their Alaskan cruises.

A Must See Travel Destination Is The Coral Castle In Florida

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

If you are traveling in southern Florida, and you are near the Miami area, you should stop by one of the most interesting tourist attractions that you will ever see.

This place is called the Coral Castle. Although originally called Rock Gate Park, the structure located in Homestead is not only an amazing place to visit but also one of the most intriguing megalithic stone structures in the world.

The story is that Edward Leedskalnin was engaged to his childhood sweetheart whose name was Agnes. Ed loved her and called her his Sweet 16. This had to do with their age difference of 10 years.

On the day before the wedding, Agnes told Ed that she did not want to marry him anymore. Many theories have arisen for her rejection of him. Some say that he was too poor for her standards. Others believe that it was his lack of education having only gone to school up until the fourth grade.

Regardless of the reason, this event changed the course of Ed’s life. He decided to pack up everything that he had in his hometown of Latvia and journey to Canada to start a new life.

They say that Ed wondered about for several years. He began his journey in Canada and later moved into California and Texas. He worked at several types of jobs including cattle drives and working in the lumber camps of Northern California.

Visitors of coral castle can actually believe that these labor intensive jobs actually helped and prepared to make his 1100 tons structure. What is sad, and even confusing, is that this very strong man almost died from contracting tuberculosis before any of this ever began.

It only weighed 100 pounds and was a mere 5 foot in height. A realtor in the Florida city area actually helped him recover from tuberculosis. Afterwards, he purchased a single acre of land for $12 and began to make the Coral Castle.

One of the best things about America is that it represents a land of opportunity, even for immigrants from small countries like Latvia. Ed was not limited to the size of his country and began to build his future home out of coral on the land he had just purchased.

According to geologists, this area of Florida has coral that goes down several thousand feet. Therefore, Ed had plenty of material to work with and began construction of his coral home including beds, tables, and shares all made out of coral.

What is even more miraculous is that except for a few pictures but Ed allowed to be taken of him, no one ever saw him working. To this day, no one knows how Edward Leedskalnin extracted, carved, moved, and positioned the coral artifacts that you can see today.

One of Ed’s greatest creations is a single piece of coral called the Obelisk which weighs nearly 30 tons, stands 40 feet above the ground, and rests in the 6 foot deep hole. Today, modern engineers and modern equipment would be unable to duplicate what Ed was able to do with simple tools over 70 years ago. His secrets died with him in Miami in’51, secrets that still puzzle modern engineers today.

Therefore, despite his nearly fatal illness, Ed arose from the ashes of his previous life and created the amazing structure that tens of thousands of people visit each and every year. It is well worth taking the time to visit and admire this amazing coral structure created by one man’s devotion and love to a woman that did not love him.

It is literally only a 30 minute drive from Miami. Take an hour out of your day to not only see one of the most amazing tourist attractions in South Florida. You will not be disappointed and you will be left completely amazed.

Incredible Costa Rica Fishing: The Finest Deep Sea Fishing In the World

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Ah, winter! Snow boots, slippery sidewalks, and dark days. Already tired of being stuck in your windowless cubicle? Imagine trading your boots and mitts for shorts and suntan lotion, hopping a jet and being out on a boat fishing in crystal waters with not a care in the world. Suddenly, your line gets a hit and the adventure is on. If this sounds like what you need, a Costa Rica fishing vacation could be something for you!

Of course, you can always just fish close to home. It is always fun to catch that little trout. Six hours of fishing for three-and-a-half minutes of fun. Now, compare that with catching the little trout’s cousin (literally, its cousin), the great marlin, weighing in at hundreds of pounds and battling you for three-and-a-half hours!

A great place for a Costa Rica fishing vacation is its North Pacific coast. This area is called the “Gold Coast” because of its amenities and is easilyconveniently reached. There is a new international airport at Liberia, Costa Rica, just minutes from the North Pacific Coast and your adventure. You will find the fishing centers of Flamingo and Tamarindo with miles of great beaches and lots of Costa Rica attractions. If you are in search of sails, visit this coast between May and August for the best fishing, though these fish are here all year. Between August to October, you might come into large schools of different tuna species with some weighing up to 400 pounds and lots exceeding 60 pounds. Catch the shoreline-dwelling roosterfish here November to March not far from the Bay of Papagayo. You also have a good chance of hooking large marlin, wahoo, and brightly colored dorado fish.

Billfish are a popular target for those angling in Costa Rica and the Central Pacific coast offers them in abundance. Visit the waters off Quepos or the Los Suenos Marina from December to April for sails or marlin. From May though October many folks catch a vibrant dorado while trolling offshore. Tuna, wahoo, snapper, roosters, and snook are also available along these shores and are found closer in. You will not be disappointed fishing here!

For many, Costa Rica fishing paradise is found along the southern Pacific Coast near the incomparable Osa Peninsula down to Panama. In the months when the water is warm, sails and marlin are frequent visitors. Inshore, you will likely run into roosterfish, large snapper, wahoo, and amberjack. The Golfo Dulce is reported by charter operators to offer the finest inland fishing in Costa Rica. This is mostly due to the fact that it contains many small coves and is very rocky, giving fish a great place to hide. There are lots of kinds of fish here, including large groupers, delectable sea bass, and the toothy barracuda. Sometimes, you will have hundreds of porpoises around your boat as they follow the bait fish.

Five hundred years ago, a fellow named Columbus landed in the Caribbean waters off Costa Rica and gave the country its name. Fish of every type filled the waters, millions of sea turtles were nesting, and wildlife was incredibly abundant. When you fish the prominent fishing centers of Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero, you will be just as thrilled as Columbus. These waters can often be extremely turbulent and for the best results should be generally avoided during rainy season. But, on calm, this region can provide some of the best angling around. You will find the large and spectacular tarpon fish fighting fish from May to November. These waters are also one of the very few places a lucky fisherman might catch the rare Atlantic sail. Snook (some really big) are abundant here. You could also bring in a Jack Crevalle, tripletail, giant grouper, or guapote.

If you want to get away from Old Man Winter, a Costa Rica fishing trip may be just what will put your soul at rest! There are several Costa Rica vacation packages available online for sportfishing. With dozens of fishing world fishing records to its credit, Costa Rica is said to have the best ocean fishing in the world. See for yourself. Pura Vida!!!

Victor Krumm lives in sunny Costa Rica and has a popular website about Costa Rica Vacations. For many sportsfolk, Costa Rica Fishing is the spectacular culmination of their Costa Rica trip.

Porsche 977

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

A new Porsche 911 is always intriguing because it’s exciting to see how after more than 40 years of development the Porsche team still manages to bring alterations and advancements to this iconic exemplar.

The new 997 combines the sleek modern appearance of the 996 series with the fashionable retro styling of the older 911’s. The front end is finished with round lamps and separate parking/fog/indicator lights. This modification, coupled with wider hips resembles the last of the air-cooled 911’s, the 993. Other alterations in the body shell are the new door handles, wing mirrors and the stylish cut of the rear wings into the bumper/lights.

Even if the 997 looks a lot like the previous model, the 996, the new car is actually 38mm wider which creates a more forceful look. With each new model introduced, Porsche has attempted to lessen the drag co-efficient helping the 911 slide through the air more effectively thus increasing performance. The same thing has been done with the new car, and if we compare the 993 Cd of 0.34 to the 997`s 0.28, we can see how far the aerodynamic game has moved on. The latest body shell and rear wing combine with new under body paneling to also offer improved levels of down force for this latest generation of Porsche’s finest.

The latest Porsche model has the best handling 911 ever. Improving a car’s firmness helps ensure that the suspension can work more effectively and although not making such a quantum leap as the team did with the 996, Porsche enhanced torsional rigidity by 8% and added as much as 40% more strength.

For their new model car, Porsche wanted to improve crash safety provisions so they added two new air bags, which are situated in the side of each front seat back-rest and are designed to protect the thorax. They also kept the previous two front and two side airbags, which means that now there are six air bags in total. For the same reason, that is crash safety, the reinforced body shell boasts further protection such as a more widespread use of very high strength steel.

The most recent model is also 50 kg heavier than the 996. The reason is that current crash safety regulations kind of force vehicle manufacturers to produce new cars of increased weight, despite the widespread use of a large range of weight saving measures, such as an aluminum bonnet.

Apart from the crash safety improvements, much of the additional weight can be attributed to the higher standard specifications of the new cars. The power to weight ratio is similar with the latest car offering 233 bhp per tonne against it’s predecessors 238 but the new model’s improved aerodynamics must assist it achieve Porsche’s claimed performance figures, which are identical to those of the 996.

A Room? How About a Whole Vacation Home

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Enjoy all the comforts of home on your next family vacation. Stay in a vacation rental home or cabin instead of a hotel. Vacation rental homes are in every destination: your favorite river, near Disneyland and Disney World, on Lake Tahoe, the beaches of Hawaii and beyond. These properties offer all the amenities to make them your second home, but the amenities aren’t the whole story: the cost-savings can be incredible.

Picture your kitchen in your home. Now picture your family in your kitchen. Sleeping. Showering. Playing. For a week. Your kitchen is about the same size as a hotel room. Now picture a fully stocked kitchen. Surrounded by 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, a laundry room. Add your family to that picture for a week. Aaaaaah, much better. Space for meals. For the kids to play. For you to relax with a book. No hotel room has that much space (not even the fancy end suite) - at least no hotel that your average vacationing family can afford.

More bang for the buck - Booking that perfect vacation rental for a few nights, a week or perhaps a month will be so much cheaper than even a mid-grade hotel room. Hotels make a large portion of their money from the restaurants on the premises. How much was your last room service bill? I recall spending $85 for a continental breakfast for two in Hawaii…yep, that’s right, 85 bucks for coffee, juice and a couple of danishes! Private vacation rentals come with fully equipped kitchens ready for home cooked meals on the cheap. Or, how about a drive to the local restaurant everyone has been talking to you about for a night out - one or two nights out instead of every night? The versatility that comes built in with these homes for family vacations is often overlooked by travelers. Rental owners don’t have the cost and expenses associated with property tax, large loan payments, restaurants, upkeep and advertising; therefore the savings is passed along to the renter. In terms of size, comfort, luxury, amenities and location, your bucks go a lot further when spent on a vacation rental.

Peace and quiet - It’s 7:30am…knock, knock, knock “Housekeeping, housekeeping!” followed by the key in the door. Does this sound familiar? Most hotels rooms are surrounded by other rooms with other people. While sleep is important on vacation, no hotel I’ve ever stayed in has a curfew. “Bang, boom, thump,” sound familiar? We all know the irritation of noisy neighbors in the room next door or up above yours. A vacation home is as quiet as you make it or as loud as you want it to be. It’s your choice. Vacation homes come with space around them and insulation to buffer you from the outside world when it’s your time to rest and relax.

Have a party and where does everyone end up? All together now: THE KITCHEN! The most important part of any home, it’s where home cooked meals are created and eaten. We can’t say enough about the kitchen. From a “these are the moments life is made of” perspective, having your own kitchen on vacation is priceless. From a hard cash perspective, having your own kitchen on vacation can save you bundles. Eat out two nights instead of every night. Pack picnic lunches instead of dining out. Enjoy breakfast in bed, and not for those exorbitant room service rates. Put leftovers away to enjoy the next day. That extra money? Sock it away and save it. Or spend it on one more day of lift tickets, Sea Doo rentals, a Mickey hat, or one last fabulous meal at a fabulous restaurant.

Locating the travel route for the next shuttle crammed with others is not an ideal way to plan your own schedule. The last time I checked hotels did not offer a board games for the family, a private hot tub, books, pool tables, free WIFI, romantic fireplace or how about a backyard. The cool amenities are truly endless when it comes to these type of accommodations. The best thing about it is you say when, where, how and who is going. Plan your travel schedule on your time which may simply include leaving Dad at home for a daytime nap. Personally, I love leftovers so the option to munch on the leftovers from the backyard grill is a complete treat not to mention the savings.

Lake Tahoe rentals for Tahoe family vacations are a great choice Lake Tahoe hot spots are fantastic for family vacations but did you know that aside from the Lake Tahoe area most all top travel destinations offer vacation rentals in addition to hotels? Here are some of the well known getaway destinations that offer beach homes, cabins, houses, condos, chalets, villas and cottages:

Here are some of the more popular areas for vacation rentals. Cape Coral, Myrtle Beach, Indian Shores, Orlando, Destin, Breckenridge, Vail, Keystone, Telluride, Steamboat, Lake Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes, Big Bear Lake, Table Rock, Shawnigan Lake, Davenport, Hilton Head, Fripp Island, Scottsdale, Cancun, Palm Desert, San Diego, Las Vegas, Oregon, the Virgin Islands…just about any destination you can think of, you will find a vacation rental, not just hotels. Beach rentals in The Gulf Shores, Orlando, Florida or any beach house travel destination and ski cabins where you as a kid grew up still exist and make great family trips for you and your new family. Areas like Lake Tahoe and Breckenridge, Colorado make for some great ski adventures. The Gulf shores and Santa Cruz, California offer beach rentals that will have the kids filled with enjoyment throughout the entire day. It doesn’t get any better than vacation rentals in Maui, Hawaii for a completely relaxing vacation. In no time you will be on the phone extending your stay with the owner of the beach home or condo.

How about that cute little cabin along the river where the kids can play in the swimming hole throughout the afternoon or that ski home next to Northstar ski resort in Lake Tahoe? A nice bungalow in the Caribbean can have its advantages. Don’t get me wrong, hotels do have their place, but for family travel, take advantage of some of the great deals on your next beach home down in the Gulf Shores or wherever it is you like to vacation.

A tip for your next family vacation rental should be to always use caution when booking vacation rentals. From Lake Tahoe, Nevada to Maui, Hawaii to the Gulf shores most “rent by owner” websites do not verify thier listings and scams are in this marketplace just like all areas that allow individuals to advertise. Simply because the vacation home is listed does not mean it has a foundation and an address. Always find out as much as you can about the owner of the rental before submitting your hard earned money. Owners and listing sites that accept credit cards should be placed at the top of your list. Check with the owner of the website to ensure each vacation rental, beach home or ski cabin has been checked out and verified with documentation. It only takes a few minutes to research this but time well spent prior to sending someone you don’t know a thousand bucks!

You may pay a few extra bucks for verified vacation vacation rentals in The Gulf Shores rental but it is well worth every penny. Most advertising websites for vacation rentals from Lake Tahoe to the Caribbean do not verify any of their listings. It is always worth looking for reviews of the rental you are interested in and reading all of the different comments. Then take the middle ground and at least you will have a pretty good starting point in to your investigation. Property management companies are usually the best resource from verification purposes as many of these managers have viewed the rental home or cabin first hand. Vacation rental sites that accept credit cards are also a great solution as many credit card companies offer insurance. Scams are out there and the last thing you and your family need is to end up at a parking garage.

Using Google or Yahoo! to find vacation rentals? Simply type in “BOOK VACATION RENTALS IN LAKE TAHOE” or “BOOK VACATION RENTALS IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA” or whatever destination you and your family have in mind. Many sites will provide you with fantastic resources for your next holiday adventure. Remember to spend a little time on the site and most of all look for vacation rental listings that are NOT too good to be true! Tired of hotels with views of the parking lot? A mountain top vacation rental with views of the canyon may be right for you.

Discover Post Solo Requirements For Private Pilots

Friday, November 27th, 2009

There is some controversy as to whether a flying student should progress onto the next phase of training if they have not completed their solo requirements. This would be to the post solo requirements. There is no hard and fast rule that says solo requirements cannot be completed after post solo has been completed or during actually.

The post solo requirements must be met before a student can, complete a solo cross county flight, or exceed a distance of 25 nautical miles beyond the starting point. The student cannot make a solo flight or landing other than the airport of origin.

For those students who want to be able to fly cross-country by themselves must have met the following requirements. (a) Received the proper flight training appropriate to the type of plane that will be used for the cross-country excursion. (b) Satisfy a competent instructor that the student is adept at the pre solo flight maneuvers and procedures as they pertain to the aircraft going to be used. (c) be prepared to adhere to what the instructor will allow.

The above are just the basic outline. If you were to look at each of these issues individually, you would soon discover that each segment is very detailed and specific.
